Help choose a name for the new mental health unit at St Ann’s Hospital

The new facility opens next summer and will take its place as one of the leading mental health facilities in the country.

The winner of the competition will have their name on a plaque on the building and will be invited to the opening ceremony to see their names on the building before its doors open to patients and staff.

“Construction work is progressing at an exciting pace, and the new unit will provide the very best modern mental health care facilities.

We want people to suggest a name for the new unit and a name for each of its four wards to reflect the special place in our community the unit will have. The names should ideally work together, for example: The Woodland Mental Health Centre, with Oak Ward, Beech Ward, Willow Ward and Elm Ward.

We want people to think of some names that perhaps reflect the history of our area, landmarks or inspiring local people from the past or the present. Good luck to everyone who enters, and it’s a chance for someone to have their named etched in local history.”

Plans for the redevelopment were developed with patients, staff and local stakeholders and involve a series of improvements to the healthcare campus, which will occupy just over one third of the site, along with a residential development to create new family houses and flats for local people.

All the current health services will remain, but be provided in improved facilities, including a new mental health inpatient building to replace the current mental health wards on the site.
