On August 1st, the British Medical Association (BMA) declared that members of its General Practice Committee voted to take GP collective action in protest to the limited increase in funding for the 2024/5 contract for GP services in England and the general pressures that GPs face.

What does this mean for you?

We are urging all of our local residents to continue to seek medical advice as and when needed. GPs encourage patients to come forward, as normal, if they need medical help.

Please see further advice below.

  • General Practices remain open between 08:00 and 18:30 on Monday to Friday.
  • Patients should attend any scheduled appointments as planned unless contacted by their practice.

If you need to book an appointment you should continue to contact your practice in the usual ways (telephone, online or visit in-person).

  • If you have a health concern that is not life-threatening you can also visit NHS 111 online or call 111 for advice on the right NHS service for your needs.
  • Make sure you have enough of any medication you need, and remember, your local pharmacist can advise on minor medical problems, without having to pre-book an appointment. You can find your nearest pharmacy at NHS.uk.

For life-threatening emergencies such as serious illness or injury, you should still call 999 immediately.

  • If you are a parent of a young child our Help for parents webpage provides advice on how to manage a range of common illnesses in children.

NCL ICB will continue to work with our local GP practices and other health and care providers to ensure that patients are able to access safe services, during this period of collective action.
